Adrenal Fatigue in Women

A woman’s body can be subjected to various amounts and forms of stress. Common ailments that affect women are adrenal disorders. Adrenal fatigue in women involves a dysfunction of the adrenal glands, which means that it is not producing enough steroid hormones, thus impairing the ability of the woman’s body to regulate organ function.

The adrenal glands are two small organs located on top of the kidney. They are connected to the pituitary gland in the brain, which gives them the function of regulating the production of some bodily hormones. This close association with the nervous system has lead some to consider the glands to be controlled by the nervous system, though this is not actually the case.

Symptoms of Adrenal Fatigue

Adrenal fatigue in women can be manifested by several symptoms, the most common of which are abdominal pains, diarrhea, unexplained and sudden weight loss, low blood pressure, muscle weakness and fatigue, vomiting, as well as changes in mood and personality changes. In some instances, adrenal fatigue follows after an accident or injury. If not properly treated, the disorder may cause death or the victim feeling so poorly she may contemplate suicide – a grave possibility which resulted to the inclusion of psychological treatment for treating the disease.

Adrenal fatigue in women commonly results in the victim developing hypoglycemia, dehydration, weight loss, and disorientation. Because of this, the patient also experiences tiredness, muscle and body ache, nausea and vomiting, dizziness, and low blood pressure, which dips further when the patient is standing. In some instances, the patient develops skin pigmentation. These symptoms do not show up all at one time, rather, they develop overtime and gradually.

The Central Element in Adrenal Fatigue

In treating the disease, the central element that is commonly subjected to consideration is stress. This is because stress is common in most patients suffering from the disease. As such, in order to combat the disease effectively, treatment should involve treating stress first. In adrenal fatigue, the disease shows up as a result of the body being unable to cope with stress. This is especially true for women, because females are more prone to stress and their sources than the male gender. That is why patients of the disease are subjected to psychological tests to help them cope with whatever situation that causes them to be stressed.

The most common form of adapting to stress includes adaptation and stress management. These two factors are very vital because treatment of adrenal fatigue may not be a decisive success if the patient is unable to cope with stress successfully. Because stress is defined as a person’s response to different stimulus, response to such stimulus should be properly regulated to ensure that no harmful effect will result.

Other treatments for adrenal fatigue make use of applying intravenous fluids, hydrocortisone, and other medications to combat the disorder. Rest is also advised, although rest by itself may not be enough to successfully treat the ailment.
